Thomas A. McCullough, husband of Ruby Justus McCullough

According to Ruby Justus McCullough in The Henderson County Heritage Book, Volume 1, “Thomas (McCullough), son of Peter McCullough, and grandson of George McCullough married Ruby Justus. He was a construction worker in several states. Thomas was a highly respected and valuable member of the Valley Hill Volunteer Fire Department for thirty five years. He had two sons, Thomas anthony who married Charmian Dotson and Michael Early who married Virginia Mitchell,” She also writes his Thomas father “Peter Mitchell McCullough 8 October 1865 – 9 July 1929 was the son of George McCullough 1836 – 1905 who came from Glasgow, Scotland to Henderson County. Peter married Rachel McCrary 24 December 1886”.

According to Ruby Ethlene Justus McCullough in The Heritage of Henderson County, Volume II, “Thomas Alonzo McCullough (30 August 1900 – 15 February 1986) was the son of Peter Mitchell McCullough (8 October 1865 – 9 July 1929) and Rachel McCrary (6 April 1868 – 22 May 1947). Peter Mitchell McCullough’s father George McCullough (1839) was born in Glasgow, Scotland and his wife Lenia Anders (1842) was born in Henderson County.

Rachel McCrary’s father was Columbus McCrary (18 Febrauary 1825 – 29 March 1869) and his mother was Lucinda Jones (13 April 1832 – 13 March 1904). Lucinda Jones McCrary donated land for Shaws Creek Baptist Church building and her daughter Rachel gave the land for the Church Cemetery.

Thomas Lonzo McCullough was a plasterer and a concrete finisher by trade. Thomas was a faithful member of the Shaws Creek Baptist Church. Thomas married 9 November 1927 Ruby Ethlene Justus (26 April 1909). Ruby was the daughter of Franklin Curtis Justus (1 September 1872 – 11 June 1958) and Minnie Ethlene Hefner (14 October 1877 – 9 May 1970).”

Thomas Alonzo McCullough and Ruby Justus McCullough
