Spann for a period of the War and he was Present or Absent (Not Stated) as a Private in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina. Last paid by Capt. Hardy to January 1, 1863.
Company Muster Roll dated January and February, 1863 show K. D. McCarson enlisted March 10, 1862 in Hendersonville by Lt. J. J. Spann and he was a Private in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops) for 3 years and shows he was Absent. Remarks state “Wounded and in hospital.”

Company Muster Roll dated July and August 1863 shows that K. D. McCarson enlisted March 15, 1862 in Hendersonville by Lt. Spann for a period of 3 years as a Private in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops) Last paid by Capt. Summy to February 28, 1863. Remarks state “Deserted near Culpeper, Va., Aug 1, 1863. Dr. to one S. B. musket $18.00 (over).”
Roll of Honor for K. D. McCarson shows that he served in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina Troops as a Private. It shows Henderson County, date of entrance into service was March 10, 1862, age 21, and was a Volunteer. Remarks state “Wounded at Fredericksburg. Deserted Aug 4 1863.”

Spann for a period of 3 years and he was Present as a Private in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops). Last paid by Maj. Scales to April 30, 1863. Remarks state “Returned from desertion Nov. 11, 1863.”

Company Muster Roll dated September and October,1864 shows that K. D. McCarson enlisted March 10, 1862 in Hendersonville, N.C. by Lt. Spann for a period of 3 years and he was Present as a Private in Company I., 16th Regiment North Carolina Infantry (State Troops). Last paid by Capt. McElroy to June 30, 1984. Remarks state “Two (2) dollars and fifty seven (57) cents to be deducted of his wages for lost of ordnance.”
K. D. McCarson, Company I, 16th Regiment North Carolina Troops (Inf). Appears on a Receipt Roll for clothing. Date of issue November 5, 1864.
K. D. McCarson appears on a Register of Prisoners of War at Hart’s Island, New York Harbor. It shows that he was captured at Hatch Run on April 2, 1865 and was received at Post on April 7, 1865. He was received from City Point, Virginia from Capt. McCalliam. He was assigned to Company 7. Remarks state “Henderson NC Released June 17, 1865 G.O. 109 June 6, 1865.”
K. D. McCarson name appears as signature to an Oath of Allegiance to the United States subscribed and sworn to at Hart’s Island, N. Y. Harbor, June 17, 1865. He was a Private in 16th Regiment North Carolina. His place of residence was Henderson County, North Carolina, complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue and his height was 5 feet 8 inches.
