James Ernest Huneycutt and Ida Cobb Huneycutt

James Ernest Huneycutt (known as J.E.) always said he was born at “Grandma’s Route 3.” He helped to rebuild the Kanuga Lake Dam when it broke for the second time in 1928. He attended UNC, taught school in Battleboro, N.C., was a principal in Rutherfordton and Kings Mt., N.C. and School Superintendent in Rockingham, N.C. for 40 years. He married Ida Pridgen Cobb. Together they wrote A History of Richmond County (shared by a family member).

James Ernest Huneycutt (JE) – Born in 1913, raised on Crab Creek Road, worked on the Kanuga dam after it broke the last time after he finished high school . He went on to UNC at Chapel Hill where he earned his BS and MA degrees in Science and Math as well as school administration. We was a teacher in Battleboro, NC where he met his wife Ida P. Cobb. After their Marriage they both were teachers in Rutherfordton and Kings Mountain, NC. JE later became Superintendent of Schools in Rockingham, NC 1948- 1974. JE and Ida are both buried in the Huneycutt plot.

JE and Ida Huneycutt had three children.
Dr. James E. Huneycutt, Jr. (married to Dr. Mary Jane Shelton Huneycutt) Reside in NY
Dr. Mary Elizabeth Huneycutt. (resides in Henderson County- Crab Creek Road)
Dr. David C. Huneycutt (married to Mary Crigler Huneycutt) Reside in Guilford County, NC.
