Ida Pridgen Cobb Huneycutt was born in Conetoe, NC. She attended East Carolina, taught elementary school in Battleboro, NC (where she met and married James Earnest Huneycutt), and in Rockingham, NC. She and J. E. had three children –Dr. James E Huneycutt Jr, of Burlington, VT, Dr. David Carl Huneycutt of Brown Summit, NC and Dr. Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Huneycutt of Hendersonville (shared by a family member).
