Katie Jean Drake
According to Elsie Drake Goepfert in The Heritage of Henderson County, Volume 1, “Katie Jean 7 April 1896 – 19 June 1977 attended Pleasant Hill School, Pine Grove Lodge Private School, and graduated from Hendersonville High School and Draughton’s of Greenville, South Carolina. She taught in the Henderson County school system and was a companion to Mrs. Lucy Boyd Frosdal, wife of the Vice Consul to Norway, served as sales lady and buyer for Belk Simpson prior to retiring in 1962. She was an active member of the Mary Smythe Bible Class and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Hendersonville Chapter Number 61, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as secretary for a number of years. A charter member and treasurer of Homemakers Extension Mountain Trails Club she was also treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of Valley Hill Volunteer Fire Department.”
