According to Vera Mae Ward and Mildred Cagle in The Heritage of Henderson County, Volume II, “Jacob Summey Hefner (10 May 1854 – 22 January 1945) was the son of George Hefner and Charlotte Allison. Jacob married Mary Painter (23-June 1854 – 21 September 1935). Jacob and Mary made their home in the Pleasant Hill section of Henderson County until they moved to the North Rugby and Highway 191 intersection at Mill Pond. At the Rugby location, Jacob operated a mill and general store. He also farmed. Jacob and his family were members and leaders in the French Broad Baptist Church…. Jacob Summey Hefner and Mary Painter Hefner are buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
