Charles Manning Hefner
Charles Manning Hefner was born February 28, 1925. He was the son of Eskridge E. Hefner and Lillian Mae Reid Hefner. A graduate of Flat Rock High School, he was working at the A&P grocery store in Tryon when at 18 years of age he was drafted and reported for training in May 1943. He served in the U.S. Army, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division as a private and received a Bronze Star. Charles Hefner died of wounds received in France on July 31, 1944 when he was 19 and was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on August 22, 1948
