Ladson Mills Greer was the son of Charles Greer and his second wife Sarah Elizabeth Huggins.



Ladson Mills Greer died in Plymouth, North Carolina of wounds on May 5th, 1864 after the Battle of Plymouth. It is not clear if his body was brought back to Hendersonville after his death in Plymouth. Also, upon the sale of Greer property, Charles Greer family burials and monuments were moved to Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  This military monument was placed at Pleasant Hill in his memory in 2007.

Lane for a period of 3 years in Company G., 56th Regiment North Carolina Infantry State Troops. Last paid by Capt. Wallach to June 30, 1863.  Remarks state “Died from wound at Plymouth N.C. May 5, 1864.”

Roll of Honor for Ladson M. Greer shows that he served in Company G., 56th Regiment North Carolina Infantry State Troops. It shows Henderson County, date of entrance into service was April 12, 1862, age 18, and was a Volunteer.

 L. M. Greer appears on a Register of claims of Deceased Officers and Soldiers from North Carolina which were filed for settlement in the Office of the Confederate States Auditor for the War Department for Company G., 56th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Troops. By whom presented Chas Greer, father. When filed December 17, 1864.

Company Muster-in and Descriptive Roll dated May 23, 1862 at Camp Mangum shows that Ladson M. Greer enrolled for active service on April 12, 1862 in Henderson County as a Private in Capt. Henry E. Lane’s Company (Henderson Blues), North Carolina Volunteers. It shows that he was born in Henderson, N.C. and was 18 years, his occupation was a farmer and his height was 5 feet 11 inches. He could not write and marked his Oath of Allegiance to the State of North Carolina with an “x.”
