According to Wilsie Drake Staton in The Heritage of Henderson County, Volume II, “Ebe Albert Drake, known as Ebb Drake (24 April 1847 – 5 February 1909) was a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Capps Drake. Ebb and Eugenia, known as Jenny Foulds (18 December 1856 – 26 July 1922) were married 30 November 1874. They reared their ten children at the Drake homestead on Willow Road in Henderson County.
They were a close-knit, loving family guided by strong church going parents, who taught their children by precept and loving example. They were members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. There were frequent family gatherings where music, singing, dancing and storytelling were enjoyed and were participated in by young and old alike. They received many invitation from neighbors and friends to play and sing. Several of the children played the organ and/or stringed instruments.
Ebb was a native of Henderson County, North Carolina. He was well known and highly respected. He was a kind hearted and upright man, a good citizen and a good neighbor.
Jenny was a source of great strength to her family and neighbors. She had a deep and abiding faith in God. She was a wonderful nurse, and she was credited with saving more than one life. An excellent example of motherhood, her daughters-in-law adored her. As long as she lived, her home was a beacon to the children and their families. Sunday afternoons were a special treat for the children and grandchildren when they gathered at her home. She was a native of England, coming to the United States in her youth.”
